A major new road project to improve transport connections between Ivory Coast and Nigeria will boost economic development for West Africa. Some of the necessary funding is already being secured for the project from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The new road link will measure some 1,081km, linking major ports and cities ports through Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Ivory Coast. The AfDB has so far managed to source US$15.6 billion for the project.
Technical studies for the project will be finished shortly. The route will be designed to cope with the heavy rainfall that occurs during the rainy season as well as climate change.
