Construction work is nearing completion for the new road connecting Algeria’s port city of Oran to the East-West Highway. The project is costing US$369 million.

The new road will provide a link between the East-West Highway and the Oran Slip Road. Construction of the new link will provide an important transport connection for heavy vehicles travelling to and from the port, the second largest in Algeria.

The project is being carried out by the contractor MAYKOL while the client for the project is Agence des Autoroutes (ADA). Building this new link will help reduce congestion and will cut journey times. The work has involved building viaducts as well as tunnel stretches and Italian contractor Trevi’s local subsidiary has been carrying out the piling work for the viaducts using rigs from Soilmec.
